Accelerator is a culture and architecture specific platform by and for residents of Umeå, to express their love, anger and sorrow for places, spaces and cultural exchanges.

The magazine started as a hope for a catalyst to broader discussions within the four walls of Umeå School of Architecture. The name and its Mascot, the Edward Muybridge running horses, were both a direct reference to this hope. For each issue, new people, new discussions and new circumstances appeared. We have transformed, tried to escape the four walls we originally set up to change. In issue 04, we outgrew the idea and our mascot died. We covered the magazine with its post mortem, its skull. But we are sentimental people and who doesn’t love a good pet? We can’t stop beating this dead horse.

Accelerator editorial team consists of Umeå based artists and architects. The magazine is released twice a year, each issue outlining a specific theme. Previous themes include 01 New Voices, 02 Ownership, 03 Pushing Boundaries, 04 Inheriting Norrland, 04.5 The Bugs Are Back and the upcoming 05 ___Umeå.

We rely on readers voices, sending in your own words in the form of printable media. We do not believe that you need specialized skills to be a part of Accelerator. Learning is part of the process. We will work with you to get the piece ready for print.
